4 Ways to Track Fitness
Published: April 24, 2023
It can be difficult to stay on top of fitness goals. Somehow, it’s one of the first things we neglect when life gets in the way. So why not use your digital planner to stay on track?
You’ll be able to analyze your progress and assess areas that need improvement. You can also track sleep patterns, measure various health metrics (which can also be shared with health care professionals), and use it as a motivational tool.
Here are 4 ways you can use a digital planner to track your fitness goals.
1 - MONTHLY CALENDAR
A monthly calendar provides you with a macro view of your fitness journey. You can use it to create your exercise plan, track your meals, and use it as a mood tracker/mini journal.
Plus, if plans change or you miss a day, it’s really easy to shift your schedule around.
2 - WEEKLY SPREADS
If you’re like me, you check in with your weekly pages more than your monthly calendars. That makes them ideal for 7 day trackers, vitamin, supplement and medication lists, reminders for scheduled exercises and workout details.
I use weekly spreads to figure out things like: is Monday’s leg day focused on heavy weights or cardio/HIIT exercises? Is Wednesday’s stretch session more yoga-based or freestyle?
Tip: If there’s space remaining on your weekly page, it’s also a fun place to keep occasional progress photos.

3 - DAILY PAGES
Daily pages emphasize details. It’s also a great space for daily check-ins and journaling about your mood, sleep, or exercise.
Here are some ideas on what you can keep track of:
Exercise lists
Weight + rep trackers
Run or swim times and notes
Class, video, or activity notes
Instructor, source, run time, etc.
Meal trackers with nutrition and/or macro notes
4 - NOTEBOOK SECTIONS or BLANK PAGES
Notebook sections and blank pages are great catchalls:
Keep track of fitness goals
Body composition and measurements
Progress photos
Ideas for future exercises
Links to fitness articles and online video workouts
Notes on classes, new exercises, fitness articles and books
Keep them together in one notebook section dedicated to exercise or break them up into multiple sections. Blank digital notebooks are great for this too!
BONUS TIPS
Add inspirational quotes, images that represent your goals (or their rewards), and progress photos throughout your planner to help keep you motivated.
Use a blank copy of your current digital planner and use it specifically for your fitness journey.
Do your best to stay on track but don’t forget to give yourself grace. No one’s perfect and life happens. If you fall off course, it’s ok to readjust.
DIY HABIT TRACKER IDEA
Use text + highlighter + shape tool to create your own trackers like we did in the weekly example.
FINALLY
Digital planning tools are a great help for tracking and staying on top of fitness goals. But it doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Even a composition notebook and pencil/pen are great too. The most important thing is to get started.
